Moray used to be an agricultural testing center of the Incas. The archeological complex consists of numerous terrace rings that simulate different altitudes and climate zones.

The Maras Salt Mines are conformed by 4,200 pools, each pool of a few square meters where the saltwater that emanates from a stream that flows from the middle of the mountain and by the effect of the sun crystallizes creating a wonder of nature, the Maras Pink Salt.

  • Schedule: Pick-up at 8AM, drop-off in Cusco before lunch.
  • Highlights: Maras salt mines and Moray farming laboratory.
  • Keep in Mind: Maras Ticket (10 Soles p.p.) and Touristic Ticket for Moray ($20 p.p) not included.
ITINERARY

HALF DAYCUSCO - MORAY RUINS & SALT MINES OF MARAS

We will pick you up from your hotel around at approximately 8:30-8:40 AM at the entrance of the Cusco Cathedral, and head to Moray. During the 1.5 hours drive, we will enjoy the incredible views of the whole valley, passing by snow capped peaks of the Andes Mountains, through lush yellow fields of wheat and local villages. Upon arrival, our professional guide will show us the archeological site of Moray and explain to us more about the purpose and history. The agricultural terraces of Moray, which are carved deep into the earth in a bowl shape, were apparently used to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops.

Afterwards, we will head towards the Salt Mines of Maras. The little village of Maras is known as a former salt-producing center, which dates back to colonial times. There are many salt pools, all carved into the mountain side, being filled daily by a little stream of salty water. The landscape there is incredible, with the salt pools and valley in the background. and spectacularly beautiful. After this visit, we will drive back to Cusco and drop you off.

Amazing company 😀
We had a great time with KB Adventures, our tour guide Elias was amazing, taught us a lot about Quechua language, was very knowledgeable and lots of fun. Really well organised and the campsites are lovely.
