After a 2-hour walk we arrive at Aguas Calientes, the little village at the bottom of Machu Picchu. We will enjoy dinner with the group and stay overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

DAY 4AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

The grand finale! We will wake up very early this morning for our visit to famous Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. This complex is considered a jewel of the Inca architecture. It is a complete town with different quarters, squares, alleys, buildings, astronomical observatories and terraces. The city was rediscovered on July 24, 1911 by the US researcher Hiram Bingham. We will have a guided tour to see and learn about the Machu Picchu site, a Wonder of the World. After the guided tour, you will have free time to take photos and discover this magical place by yourself.

FAQ

What is the difference between Inca Jungle and Inca trail?

El Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is more about trekking along the original Inca Trail and focuses on the Incan history, culture, mystique, and tradition. The Inca Jungle Trek includes less trekking, but more adventure activities along the way. Besides, the altitude of the Classic Inca Trail Peru is higher with plenty of mountain views, while the Inca Jungle Adventure Trek includes a longer part in the Peruvian jungle.

The Classic Inca Trail starts at an altitude of  2,600 meters, you descend up to 4,200 meters before descending to the Inca citadell of Machu Picchu. This means that you trek through much more diverse climates and environments. The Inca Jungle Trek is flatter (mostly between 1,000-2,000 meters) before climbing up to Machu Picchu on the final day.

What should I pack for the Inca Trail?

  • One personal daypack (a 30 to 50 L backpack is sufficient). Before your trek we will give you one extra duffle bag from our office to carry your extra clothes and personal items (max. 5kg).
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Small coins in Peruvian Soles (Bathrooms are free at the campsites but cost 1 Sol along the route. Keep small change on hand too for water bottles, snacks, and toilet paper.)
  • Rain jacket or rain poncho
  • Strong footwear (Waterproof trekking boots recommended.)
  • Sleeping bag (also available for rent)
  • Flashlight/headlamp and batteries
  • Enough clothes for the whole period of the trek (long-sleeve trekking shirts, short-sleeve shirts, leggings or trekking pants, shorts, underwear, hiking socks, a rain poncho or rain jacket, gloves, beanie, a hat with a brim, hiking boots, and sandals to rest your feet at the campsites.
  • Protector solar.
  • Insect repellent
  • Additional snacks (remember that we supply you with plenty of food already.)
  • Original passport (mandatory for entrance to Machu Picchu.)

How can I prepare for the hike and prevent altitude sickness?

The best way to prepare yourself for this trekking experiencee is easy: spend at least 2 to 3 days at a high-altitude place like Cusco, so your body gets used to the high altitude. If you have already been to a high altitude destination before arriving to Cusco, we still recommend you spend at least one full day in Cusco to rest, recuperate from your trip, and enjoy the beautiful views of the city before your trek.

Additionally, taking good care of your body helps deal with the extra pressures that altitude creates. We recommend you to eat healthy food, drink lots of water and stay away from alcohol. Chewing coca leaves, drinking coca tea helps to alleviate any discomfort associated with the altitude.

Blown away!! 😀
The tour exceeded my expectations on every level. Communication was always super easy with our guides and the K.B. Adventures team (before, during and after the trek). The views are breathtaking, everything was super organized, the food was great, and Big Willy (our guide) was super helpful and knowledgeable. If you want a special trek with jungle views, don’t hesitate to book! Thanks to all the team!
