  • Tour Type: Hiking, off the beaten path adventure
  • Good For: Those with a sense of adventure and in good hiking shape
  • Difficulty: Moderate, but challenging
  • Pick Up Time:  4 AM
  • Considerations: This trek will take about five hours.

On this trek you will see quaint villages, beautiful adobe style houses, herds of llamas and alpacas and you will have magnificent views of the Ausangate Mountain (6,385 m / 20,945 ft.), the highest mountain in Cusco region.

We begin the day by picking you up at 4:20 – 5:00 am from your respective hotels, and once everyone is in the van we will drive south for about 2 hours towards Cusipata where we will eat breakfast. After breakfast we will continue in van for about 1 hour towards Phulawasipata, where we will start the hike. The hike takes about 1 to 2 hours, at a normal or slow pace, and the first part is at a normal incline, then greatly increases to a steeper climb at the second part.

From the steep incline (about a 45 degree angle) we will approach the designated peak of Winicunca, the highest point of Rainbow Mountain (5000 m / 16,000 feet above sea level), where we will have the best view of the beautiful striped mountains and also the snowy peak of the highest mountain in Cusco, Ausangate (6400 m / 21000 ft above sea level). After about 30 minutes at the peak we will make our descendant for approximately 1 hour, then we will take the bus towards our lunch spot. Finally, we will head back to the city of Cusco, arriving around 5:00 to 6:00 pm to drop you off at the plaza San Francisco.
